Producers, directors, choreographers and related occupations

Film, radio, television and video game producers:

• Plan, organize and control the budgets, approvals and scheduling involved in the production of presentations, motion pictures, television shows, radio programs, video games and educational or instructional videos
• Engage directors and other production personnel and supervise all technical personnel
• Determine the treatment, scope and scheduling of production
• Maintain production archives and negotiate royalties

Directors:

• Decide on the artistic approach and interpretation of scripts and screenplays
• Oversee set design, lighting, projections, costumes, music and other creative elements
• Select and/or oversee the selection of actors, extras, designers and technical crew
• Direct and collaborate with cast and crew on the interpretation and delivery of the performance
• Direct rehearsals, filming and broadcasts
• Direct crew and specialists from production through post-production to collaboratively deliver the artistic vision

Choreographers:

• Create dances for film, theatre and television performances that express stories, ideas and moods
• Direct dance rehearsals to achieve the desired interpretation
• May also work in amateur or professional skating, gymnastics, musical festivals, circuses and shows at sporting and other events

Art directors:

• Plan, organize and direct the artistic aspects of motion pictures, stage productions and television shows by overseeing set design, costumes, furnishings and props to create portrayals of time and place

Film editors:

• Edit video and arrange film segments into sequences to tell a story and achieve continuity and desired dramatic, comedic and thematic effects in collaboration with the director

Record producers:

• Plan and coordinate the production of musical recordings
• Direct and collaborate with musicians and singers during rehearsals and recordings
• Manage technicians involved in mixing, duplicating, dubbing and mastering of recordings

Directors of photography:

• Coordinate and direct the photography of motion pictures
• Supervise camera operators and other crew
• Set up or oversee set up of lighting, lenses, camera angles, backgrounds and other elements to create the desired visual effect
