The British Columbia Labour Market Outlook estimates 76 percent of all job openings in the next 10 years will require some level of post-secondary education or skills training, or management or supervisory experience. The Cariboo region is expected to have 23,500 job openings over the next decade.
The programs outlined below are designed to support people living in B.C. in gaining the skills needed to participate in the labour market, secure sustainable employment or move on to further education or training that can benefit their lives.
More than 80 percent of participants achieve employment or pursue further education and training after completing a skills training program.

Connective’s ACES program (Acquiring Community-Based Employment Skills) provides participants with career coaching and exploration, training certifications, soft skills development and support with the job search and interviewing process to find, secure and maintain employment. Once BladeRunners are employed, ACES continues to offer supports to them and their employers to ensure their long-term success.

Raising Roofs is a construction training program that supports individuals in earning the certifications required by the construction trade to assist with their future endeavours. Upon completion, participants are matched with employers and provided with personal tools and protective equipment. Classes are kept small (maximum eight people), and the intake is continuous, meaning that youth can apply to participate whenever they are ready. No previous experience is required, and participants will learn the basic skills needed in today’s construction industry while working on building projects for various community service groups.

A community-based program developed to provide life and job readiness skills, work experience, on-the-job training, job coaching and ongoing supports to people living in B.C. Through capacity building and partnership development with businesses in the surrounding area, BladeRunners have the opportunity to gain work experience or pursue advanced education based on their success from the training experience.
