The British Columbia Labour Market Outlook estimates 76 percent of all job openings in the next 10 years will require some level of post-secondary education or skills training, or management or supervisory experience. The North Coast and Nechako region is expected to have 15,700 job openings over the next decade. 

The programs outlined below are designed to support people living in B.C. in gaining the skills needed to participate in the labour market, secure sustainable employment or move on to further education or training that can benefit their lives. 

More than 80 percent of participants achieve employment or pursue further education and training after completing a skills training program.


Hecate Strait Employment Development Society

SPARK empowers participants to think creatively, build confidence and develop the skills needed for advanced training and employment. SPARK offers a combination of short-term skills certifications and life and employment skills training, complemented by access to resources like laptops and transportation funds. The 10-week training and personal growth program is designed for people who are unemployed, underemployed or facing barriers to education or employment. 


Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association

A community-based program developed to provide life and job readiness skills, work experience, on-the-job training, job coaching and ongoing supports to unemployed, low-wage youth. Through capacity building and partnership development with businesses in the surrounding area, BladeRunners have the opportunity to gain work experience or pursue advanced education based on their success from the training experience.


Tribal Resources Investment Corporation (TRICORP)

BladeRunners is a holistic training program designed for youth within TRICORP’s service area, aiming to address barriers to employment. The program provides people living in B.C. with training, certification and ongoing support to help them gain the skills needed to find and maintain employment.
