Inclusive and accessible job fairs bring together job seekers with disabilities and employers
WorkBC Centres throughout the province have been busy connecting thousands of job seekers and employers through dozens local job fair events. Their efforts to ensure their job fairs are accessible and inclusive to all people means more people with disabilities have the chance to connect with employers looking to hire.
WorkBC Centres worked together and with community partners to support participants with diverse needs to meet one-on-one with employers:
- One job fair offered low sensory hours with reduced light and noise for participants
- Some provided American Sign Language interpretation or therapy dogs
- Others brought in inspirational speakers or provided transportation
- Another created and held a reverse job fair – where employers rotated through the event, visiting job seekers, rather than the other way around
- Catering was provided by people with disabilities enrolled in a food services training program, offering hands-on experience to help them prepare for employment
Each WorkBC Centre’s goal was to create an accessible and inclusive hiring environment where everyone was welcome. They also provided information on disability specific WorkBC services and industry best practices to employers, to help them build more inclusive workplaces.
Everyone belongs at WorkBC!
