Jeassica followed her childhood dream to become a teacher

Jeassica, a single mom with limited work experience, took on a physically demanding warehouse job that soon became too taxing on her body. Knowing she needed to pursue further education to change her situation, she reached out to her local WorkBC Centre. With one-on-one support, she mapped out a plan for her future, including further education to gain the skills needed.

Inspired by her childhood dream of becoming a teacher, Jeassica enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program at Vancouver Career College. WorkBC helped arrange daycare and provided financial support for school and childcare.

Reflecting on her journey, Jessica says, “I felt like I didn’t have time to study, all I wanted to do was earn and provide for my children. I hadn’t seen the bigger picture yet. But still, I was attending the [WorkBC Centre] seminar and following what Ms. Rosita [the employment counsellor] instructed me to do. And it was the best decision I made that time.”

Jeassica graduated with honours, and works full time at a large daycare, doing a job she loves.
